Ten Sovereigns ex Madam Baroque - GT
She's a correct filly with good conformation. Easy moving filly, light on her feet and athletic. She won't be early, but would be planning a 6f maiden in May at this stage. She is out of mare who's going to produce some good horses soon, Ed Walker thinks a good bit about the half brother who won his maiden 2nd start last year. Ten Sovereigns has been going well as a stallion too.
Grant is very happy with our Ten Sovereigns filly, he has committed to her as his favourite 2yo at this moment in time whereas Anna is still favouring the Yafta filly.
24th December - Physically we are very happy with our filly, she is coming along nicely.
She will have an easy ten days over christmas before stepping into some faster work in early Jan.
10th December - Anna introduced our filly to the stalls environment for the first time and she took everything in her stride.
6th December - The team at Grant's are very happy with our filly. She's taken everything in her stride and we are looking forward to seeing her complete some faster work in the new year.
Grant remains very upbeat about our filly, she has done all that has been asked to date.
Our confidence behind the filly grew some more after her half brother Into Battle won well in a large field maiden at Kempton last week.
Grant describes our Ten Sovereign filly as having a lovely attitude and wants to go forward at all opportunities.
Our first purchase of day two was lot 279, a Ten Sovereigns filly consigned by Norelands Stud, who we purchased for €25,000 with plenty of bids still in the pocket should we have required them.
Grant valued the filly €10,000 higher than we did and it's pretty clear he was mad on her, he has taken a leg of the filly.
Grant is enjoying a fine 2023, we are his most successful owner in the yard and he ranks second in our "league table" of winners for 2023 which is a huge effort, Bellarchi, Glorious Angel, Sophia's Starlight are all success stories to come out of the yard this season.
The filly qualifies for the IRE incentive which rewards owners with a €10,000 prize should we win a qualifying race, we have won 5 in 2023 and are one of the leading owners supporting the scheme.
Ten Sovereigns is enjoying a good first season as a sire, having produced two 5f stakes winners from his small first crop. He won the Middle Park stakes at 2 before backing that up with the July Cup as a 3yo. He was all speed and this cross looks set to match, "speed on speed" with the dam being by Royal Applause. No Nay Never has a successful record when pairing with Royal Applause offspring, two horses have been produced with one commanding £240,000 at book 1 before issues halted their racing career, the second horse is Fleeting Prince who peaked at an RPR of 105 so we know the bloodlines work!
Ed Walker trains the half brother, a €38,000 yearling colt by Churchill and he won on his second start beating 13 rivals at Kempton over a mile. Ed was very upbeat about the half at the sale and that gives us some confidence in our filly.
