After her G3 Prix Penelope victory, Making Dreams was catalogued to sell in a boutique Arqana sale, with entries in the G2 St.Alary and the Epsom Oaks against her name.
After four parties showed their interest, it was Yoshida's Northern Farm that came up trumps with their bid of €750,000.
This presented her owners with a huge ROI after she was purchased for just 33,000gns.
Not bad considering she ran in two sellers last year!
Nick has spent years studying the breeze up videos, and following these horses careers beyond the sales so that he knows exactly how each breeze up sale and individuals from them perform on the track. Nick is a fan of timing the breezes and he uses this data along with the physical examination of the horses to identify the horses who should be bought from the sales.
Yearling Sales see a large number of unraced horses sell within a very short space of time. So it is very much a race against the clock to see the horses in the sale, assess them and put a value on them. Nick selects all of the yearlings purchased himself, and like any other horse purchased, Nick is keen to purchase a share in them so value for money is very much in the forefront of his mind.
Nick breeds from his own band of 20-30 broodmares, so he gets to see foals and yearlings every day of the year. Nick has attended yearling sales for over 10 years and throughout that time he has built up a wealth of experience and knows what the important factors are when selecting your racing stock.
Nick and his team of pedigree and form advisors, spend days studying the catalogues prior to the sales commencing. Time at the sales is precious and it should be spent looking and studying the right horses. Nick and his team are all form students who make their livings from backing the right horses, so going into Horses in Training sales they already have a lot of the work done for them in sectional and form analysis. They identify horses who they believe to be on an upward curve and who are not only well handicapped but horses who could compete at the highest level given the right management and campaign.
