FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I get a share of any prize money? If so, when is it paid?

Yes, you are entitled to the % share of all earnings on the horse. Prize money is calculated at the end of the season, so for Flat horses we do the calculations in December and settle the accounts in January. National Hunt accounts are calculated in May and settled in June.

How many owners does each horse have?

The number of owners varies from horse to horse but typically we average around 20 owners per horse. It may be as low as 10 and as many as 30 in some instances.

What happens if I decide I don’t want to be an owner anymore. How much notice do I have to give?

You can terminate the contract at any point after the first 12 months. We require 1 months’ notice and it's just a case of dropping us an email.

Can I sell my share?

Yes you can sell your share at any point. We may be in a position to purchase your share from you, it very much depends on the situation at the time. If you have found an owner for your share, it's just a case of sending us their details.

Who decides where and when the horse should run?

Nick manages the racing plans of all of the horses in conjunction with the trainers of the specific horses. You are informed when your horse has been entered 6 days before the race and declared 2 days before the race.

What happens if we receive an offer to buy the horse?

All offers for horses are passed on straight to the owners. At that time, Nick welcomes your opinion in terms of keeping or selling the horse. Nick recognises that many owners aren't experienced enough to know when to accept or reject offers and advises using his previous experience.

Are there any other additional benefits?

Nick manages the horses racing plans from the day they are purchased to the day they are retired. His race previews are usually very accurate in terms of how the horses run in their races and often give the opportunity to have a wager. Open Days are open to all members so you can keep up to date with all of the horses running for Nick Bradley Racing.

As an owner, is it possible to get EXTRA badges for race meetings when MY HORSE IS RUNNING?

The number of badges you are entitled to are included in your contract. If you would like to request extras we can contact the racecourse on your behalf and ask for a discounted rate . Cost varies from course to course.

Badges may be for use in the syndicate lounge if the number requested exceeds our entitlement. Light refreshments are always available. Lunch is rare but if the no of owners is low we may be able to arrange this.

How is prize money distributed in britain?

80% of the prize money goes to the owner's,  8% to the Trainer, 6% to the Jockey, except if the Jockey is an Amateur Jockey, and 6% to the stable from which the horse was trained.

e.g. If a race has 3 prizes up for grabs the prize money will be allocated accordingly - 1st (49.6%), 2nd (20.27%), 3rd (10.13%).

how much does it cost to enter a race?

The Owner must pay the Entry fees as stated in the Race Conditions and in the fees listed in the Fee Code. e.g. Make an entry (internet only (excluding early closing)) is £23

The entry fees can vary significantly from £25 for a class 5 at Southwell to a late supplementary entry in to the Epsom Derby is £85,000!

The Owner must also pay £1.20 to the Horserace Betting Levy Board for the benefit of the Equine Infectious Diseases Services of the Animal Health Trust, and £1.25 to the BHA for the benefit of the welfare of former racehorses, for each Entry.
