This filly has been right at the top of George's pile since she arrived and he tells me that she is impressing more and more every week that passes.
She's currently hacking around the yard and George is very happy with her, stating she is in his top three yearlings he currently has in.
17th October 2024
George is very happy with how the filly has handled the breaking in process.
He describes her as a strong, well built filly who has a great action and she covers the ground very well.
She is currently trotting around the farm with no issues.
Phoenix Of Spain isn't the most popular of stallions at the moment but he is more than capable of producing a good horse, group two winner Haatem is proof of that and there's also several stakes performers by Phoenix Of Spain, Flying Finn and Alpheratz are two fillies that achieved blacktype earlier in the season.
The bare stats for the stallion are probably a false reading with progeny of Phoenix Of Spain very popular with international buyers, Hong Kong and Australia is a frequent destination for animals that show a high level of ability early in their career.
That ties in nicely with the mare, Young Special who has produced two very nice horses from her three foals who have made it to the race track.
Lady Maeve has won seven times in Canada, collecting over £90,000 in prize money whilst Special M won on both of his French starts before relocating to Hong Kong where he has won five races, picking up over £650,000 in prize money along the way.
Whilst this is the first evidence of the Phoenix Of Spain x Fastnet Rock cross, Phoenix Of Spain is a son of Lope De Vega, with some of his very best produce coming as a result of a Fastnet Rock mare.
Four of the six runners in Britain have been winners who have all shown significant ability, multiple group placed Dubai Poet, unbeaten Glen Buck, Real Dream (RPR 111) and Jasmine Joy (RPR 99). The fifth example is Subsonic who has ran just the once in Ireland for Johnny Murtagh, finishing second to a Ballydoyle 2/5 shot, Johnny also really liked our filly and asked to train her.
Again the international racing scene is a strong theme throughout this fillies profile with some of Australia's very best horses being the result of the "nick" above, multiple group one winner Santa Ana Lane, Grytrash (RPR 120) and Faith In Harmony (RPR 113) are just a few examples.
In our opinion, given his international links, there is no better place for this filly to be trained than Ollie Sangster. Whilst building up to taking out his own license, Ollie spent time in Melbourne, working under Aussie trainer David Hayes as well as a highly successful stint at Wesley Ward's, that relationship is still strong today with Wesley trusting Ollie to oversee his purchases at the recent HIT sale.
Fondest Dream was a filly who George Chaloner pretrained that would be purchased by American buyers and with all the links above, it wouldn't come as a total surprise should this filly head that way returning her owners with a significant return on their investment.
Given her purchase price of €22,000, she will qualify for band D races which gives us a huge advantage when we start looking for races for the filly.
This ensures that every single maiden or novice is available to her and we have the best opportunity to find her the right race to start off her campaign, with a winning racecourse debut making her an attractive proposition of any potential international offers like her pedigree would point towards.
She also qualifies for the €10,000 IRE Incentive which will see her owners credited to this value on their end of season prize money should we win a qualifying race, with restricted races making up plenty of the options.
A fillies only band D race with a €10,000 bonus is pretty much the dream start for any juvenile and this will give her the best chance of starting her career with a victory.
Ollie is very happy with the string we are sending him, in particular this filly and he is taking a large share in this filly.
