Obelix is currently enjoying his winter holiday at Glebe Farm before he moves to Malton at the start of January. By Sea The Stars, out of a Dubawi mare, we fully expect him to come on physically over the winter and hopefully display some further improvement on the track potentially up in trip. He's only had seven starts to date so its hard to imagine we cant unlock some more improvement, especially with him heading to the Camacho's.
Our only purchase of day 3 of the Tattersalls HIT came late in the day but he’s well worth the wait!
Obelix, once a €300k breezer, is currently rated 90 after two sub standard efforts on soft ground , at Doncaster they reached for first time blinkers which didn’t work and he didn’t stay the trip. At York, they went a very slow pace which meant both the ground and position had gone against him.
Previously he was running well in some top level handicaps at both Newmarket and York.
He finished 5th in the Skybet Finale handicap at York worth over £50,000. As you can see from the video below, he wasn’t asked too many questions and ought to have finished much closer.
Before this, Jamie Spencer was very complimentary of him after he jumped off at Newmarket under a typical Spencer ride.
Everybody we spoke to was full of praise for the horse albeit he isn’t the most straightforward when you steer away from his desired good ground.
That’s perfect for what we want out of him, he’ll be running in all the major handicaps over the summer at the very biggest meetings and he’s sure to treat owners to some very nice days out!
Down to a mark of 90, he looks sure to be competitive immediately on his good ground form and we’ll be plotting our campaign accordingly.
He will enjoy a couple of easy months over the winter before heading to Julie Camacho. Our first horse with the team at Julie’s, Steve Brown has been a great help over the past few days and we are hopeful of building a positive relationship from their Malton Base.
They need no introduction to success from this sale, Significantly was purchased last year and he’s gone on to win the Ayr Gold Cup this season. Titain and Raatea are further recent examples of them transforming a horses career, with Beraz also discovering himself when switched to the yard.
Last but by no means least, G1 winner Shaquille has been their flag bearer this season, starting life in handicaps off 94 before winning both the Commonwealth and July Cups.
An impressive winner of a Newcastle maiden on his last start as a 2yo, he came home by 10l with a minimum amount of fuss.
Jamie was very complimentary of the horse when we spoke to him, he believes he should have won this day, his final 3f sectionals where far quicker than anything else in the race.
The slow early pace saw her at a major disadvantage at York however he stuck on well despite not been asked for maximum effort.
