We are delighted to have struck early on day one of the Book Three yearling sale at Tattersalls with this gorgeous Mohaather filly.
She has a great walk about her and Nick loved her the first time her saw her. She has her excellent confirmation and she comes highly recommended by her farm, Tennyson Stud who gave 25,000gns for her as a foal last year at Tattersalls.
We are a big fan of the sire, he’s had a tremendous first season and he really stamps his stock well with plenty of similarities for this filly.
He’s already produced a group winner in the shape of Molecomb winner, Big Mojo, who was unlucky not to follow up in the group two Flying Childers at Doncaster.
Not only has he produced animals of the highest quality, his median has been incredibly good with only 19 of the 48 UK runners running below a RPR of 70, just 5 of the 19 have ran below 60 which shows he isn't having big fluctuates between his best and worst produce.
Other notable successes come in the shape of listed winner, Yah Mo Be There and €150k Arqana series winner, Mojave River.
Serving With Style is the best filly in the country by Mohaather, she won a valuable restricted novice (exactly what we’ll be targeting) and she’s gone on to finish second in the group two Rockfel Stakes.
She is trained by Karl Burke and that’s where this filly will be heading, Karl also trains our only purchase from the sires first crop, Arkinthestars. Karl has travelled home upon completion of book two but when Nick showed him this filly he loved her and we couldn’t think of a better home for her given the continued success Karl is having and our long standing relationship with Spigot Lodge.
This filly is out of a Teofilo mare called Thiel, Teofilo is a sensational damsire having been responsible for horses such as Coroebus, Maljoom and even our own Al Qareem.
Thiel was unraced but she is out of a listed winner who went on to finish third in the 1000 Guineas and it’s fair to say she has passed on some of that ability given the quality of her offspring, minus her first foal. Her second foal is a three-time winner who achieved an official rating of 91 as a two year old over sprint trips. Her third foal by Ten Sovereigns, passed away having been a 37,000gns foal who looked a very nice filly.
The Mohaather x Teofilo cross is obviously still in its infancy but it has produced one colt who has achieved an RPR of 71 over in Ireland this year. If we look further back, Showcasing x Teofilo has produced several high quality animals who ran to a mark of 90+ including graded winner Bodhicitta who won over £200,000 in prize money running over a mile.
We expect this filly to be seen in the middle of the year, starting over a stiff six or an easy seven furlongs. She qualifies for the two Tattersalls sales races worth 100/150k in August and October which are both ran at Newmarket in August and October with the later expected to suit with a little bit of cut in the ground.
As she walked into the ring we felt that if she was making band "C" money we just had to buy her due to the increasing opportunities for restricted animals in Britain.
Her purchase price of 37,000gns means she just creeps into that band C bracket and in theory she'll be the most expensive horse in those restricted races.
As I have eluded to previously, there where 112 maidens for 2yo's that cost under £40,000 in the first four months of the flat season, with 10% of those races offering prize money of £30,000 and almost half of those valuable races being fillies only contests.
We'll be targeting fillies only contests considering she is 100% GBB registered, this is a huge help for owners and it rewards them with a £20,000 bonus on top of prize money per fillies race won.
She joins the best 2yo trainer in the country at this moment in time, that opinion is not only backed up by his eye watering stats year on year but the recognition of some of the biggest owners in the land now trusting the yard with their most expensive purchases including AMO racing who are sending their £4.4million Wootton Bassett colt!
