Phil Makin 02/01/25
She’s nearside, the other filly jinked into her just before they got to me, makes it look like she was wasn’t going as well as the other. We have been very impressed and we like her a lot.
Her and a half sister to Fairy Godmother (Albany winner) would be the two yearlings that stand out on all we have seen.
Our Massaat filly has been broken in with no issues and Phil Makin is extremely happy with the filly.
At the very top of our list on day two of Book Three was this athletic Massaat filly who is a full sister to a four time winner in the shape of Grannie Budgie.
She won three races for George Scott in her two year old career which saw her reach a mark of 85, a mark achieved on the back of a third behind stakes performers in Chic Columbine and Heritage House. Grannie Budgie would then be sold privately to race in America as a three year old, where she has won and is now rated 103 by the BHA.
The mare, Caledonia Duchess is by Dutch Art and she’s from a very fast family with speed all the way down the page. She is a half sister to multiple stakes winner, Caledonia Lady who was prolific in all the European sprint races with her biggest win coming in the group three Coral Charge.
Massaat stands at Mickley Stud and commands just a £3,000 cover fee but he has more than proven himself both here and with international interests with several very good horses now based in Australia and American by the sire, Coco Jamboo, Mas Rapido and now the incredibly talented, Docklands who finished second in the group one, Queen Anne Stakes.
We can expect plenty of physical improvement to follow given she is a may foal but we expect her to be lots of fun throughot the summer on fast ground over sprint trips. She's 100% GBB registered and we'll be looking at fillies only restricted races to hopefully win one or more £20,000 bonus.
As she walked into the ring we felt that if she was making band "C" money we just had to buy her due to the increasing opportunities for restricted animals in Britain. As I have eluded to previously, there where 112 maidens for 2yo's that cost under £40,000 in the first four months of the flat season, with 10% of those races offering prize money of £30,000.
This gives us an almighty chance of success early in the season before we hopefully move on to bigger and better things, like this fillies pedigree will suggest she will.
She qualifies for the two Tattersalls sales races worth 100/150k in August and October which are both ran at Newmarket in August and October over six furlongs which are two lucrative targets for the latter end of the season.
She joins the best 2yo trainer in the country at this moment in time, that opinion is not only backed up by his eye watering stats year on year but the recognition of some of the biggest owners in the land now trusting the yard with their most expensive purchases including AMO racing who are sending their £4.4million Wootton Bassett colt!
As mentioned above, she 100% qualifies for the lucrative GBB which will see owners rewarded with a £20,000 bonus per fillies race won!
