This filly managed to stay on Nick's list after second viewing, a list that was just twelve long from over two hundred and fifty horses on the day.
As she walked into the ring we felt that if she was making band "D" money we just had to buy her due to the increasing opportunities for restricted animals in Britain. As I have eluded to previously, there where 112 maidens for 2yo's that cost under £40,000 in the first four months of the flat season, with 10% of those races offering prize money of £30,000.
This gives us an almighty chance of success early in the season before we hopefully move on to bigger and better things, like this fillies pedigree will suggest she will.
Why was she so cheap? That's probably down to the sire, whilst he's produced a long list of good horses in his first two years, he's not produced that group winner whilst a young stallion needs and is quiet quickly judged on.
He has however produced a listed winner as well as horses who have placed in stakes company, which is something that if we can achieve, this filly will be worth plenty as a broodmare based on her pedigree.
We were happy to take a small gamble on the sire based on Nick's eye for his offspring so far with three daughters of Magna Grecia racing in our colours to date. Indication Spirit ran up a hat trick of wins as a two year old, Greek Gift has won two races already and will win more when she goes up in trip and Realise The Dream shows a great deal of ability at home and she will come to hand once she strengthens up being out of a Le Havre mare.
The dam is a Dansili mare who finished second in her three starts as a two year old in field sizes of 13,28 and 20 before winning a maiden as a three year old.
All three horses that beat her during her juvenile career went on to be group winners and it’s fair to say she had a great deal of ability.
As you can see on the table above she has had a very successful career as a broodmare with all but one offspring winning two or more races and achieving an RPR of at least 90.
Within her progeny is Al Dasim, a colt by Harry Angel who George Boughey trained to win a group three in Dubai before being beaten just three lengths in group one company.
She is also responsible for Shadwell’s Tashweeq, he was a listed winner as a two year before being highly tried in group one company after that, also finishing 3rd in the Royal Hunt cup off a very high weight.
It’s safe to say this mare does not miss with prize money totalling over £750k from her immediate family!
Whilst the Magna Grecia x Dansili cross is in its infancy, we can go back a step to see the Invincible Spirit and Dansili cross has resulted in some excellent results.
From the 13 occasions, the lowest peak RPR is 69 and she was a three time winner!
Just four of the examples wouldn't win a race and we don't see this filly having any problems!
Coupled with the strong pedigree, we believed this filly was a must buy at the price especially after she was left on the shortlist from Nick’s second round of viewings.
We have paid the €5,000 entry fee for the Goffs Two Million Series which will be extended to Britain for the first time in 2025. Whilst the valuable finals are held at the Curragh in late September, there are a long list of qualifying maidens that qualify for a €50,000 bonus should you manage to come home in front, with certain restricted races on the agenda.
Whilst we are conscious these will be deep races due to the bonus, we felt that the six furlong race that carries a prize pot of €500,000 is a race we can really target based on this years running.
The race attracted just ten runners, short of the max field size and it wasn't a race stacked with quality. This sale is renowned for sharp, sprinting types and thats an angle we would like to explore for 2025.
She joins Brian Ellison who has enjoyed a magnificent season with his juveniles and we'll aim to get this filly started in one of the £30,000 restricted maidens early in the season.
At very limited money, this filly gives you a fantastic chance of a return with a significant upside should we manage to pinch some blacktype which has to be the aim.
