I have just caught up with Jack re our filly.
Jack likes her alot and tells me she is in good form. She has done plenty of upsides cantering before Xmas. Jack tells me she is very forward and at the moment she looks like a filly who will start off over 6 furlongs towards the end of April.
Jack aim to do fast work with her in the second half of March and that will give us a gauge on her level of ability and speed.
Very happy with the Lope Y Fernandez’s fillies progress.
She looks a quick learner and is enjoying her upsides work. As I mentioned in my last video we will continue this for the next couple of weeks before I step her work up further.
14th November
Our filly is progressing nicely and Jack has stepped up her work to include two canters a day, three times a week.
It won't be long before she heads onto Warren Hill.
6th November
Our filly is now ridden away on the gallops in Newmarket.
She can be seen in second on the video above on the Town Canter and Jack is very happy with her.
17th October
Jack has been incredibly pleased with our fillies attitude and her willingness to take onboard the breaking in process.
She is ridden away and she will slowly step up her work with a view to taking her on the town canter in the coming weeks.
17th October
This filly looks really good value based on the Lope Y Fernandez stock thats gone through the ring in subsequent sales.
The option to run in restricted maidens and novices is a huge help and this filly should be able to hit the ground running in those contest, especially the 30k fillies only heats.
There's probably nobody better judge of a Lope Y Fernandez filly at this moment in time than Nick Bradley. Given his investment into the stallion, he has been around his first crop from the very first breath and the aim is to put the best fillies in racing for our syndicate.
We have paid some close attention to crosses that have been successful with his sire, Lope De Vega and arguably one of the most prolific crosses is with Fastnet Rock mares, just like this filly is.
From the five crosses, four of those have been winning examples whilst also recording a peak RPR of:
110, 89, 99 and 111!
This filly is from a family that Nick knows well, the mare Sea Horn stands at Glebe Farm Stables and she is a big strong unraced mare by Fastnet Rock. Her first produce, Seasett raced for NBR with a peak RPR of 93 before he moved to Charlie Fellowes for his four year old campaign prior to leaving for Ireland for a dual purpose campaign.
The second produce was an eyecatching Cracksman filly that Nick sold as a yearling to Ed Dunlop for 50,000gns and she was held in very high regard before an unfortunate injury saw her career reach an abrupt ending before she could ever make the race track.
Hereby is the link with first season trainer, Jack Morland.
Jack has been the assistant at Ed's for the past five years after a spell in Australia and Brian Meehan before that.
He was a big fan of the Cracksman filly when she was at Ed's and felt this filly was too good to turn down at band D money.
Jack will train in Newmarket from the Red House Stables on Hamilton Road which was formerly used by Terry Kent.
He approached Nick after the hammer went down to see if we would be interested in a partnership, whereby he owns 50% of the horse, such is his confidence in her at the early stages of his training career.
We have spoke to several people in the industry this afternoon who have provided us with a glowing reference and we are happy to start what i hope can be a positive relationship.
You can view more details on Jack's website:
This filly is a strong, well boned individual who is a good athletic mover and she should be plenty of fun for the second half of the season.
Due to her price tag of just 15,000gns, that means we can start her off in the lowest restricted band on maidens which this year was capped at around £20,000.
This will give her the best opportunity to succeed in maiden company as a 2yo before moving onto bigger targets at the back end of the season and hopefully into her 3yo campaign.
Her back page is littered with impressive stakes performers and
given her pedigree, I fully expect her to make a solid middle distance horse at three and if she can emulate the proven crosses on Lope De Vega x Fastnet Rock then she will prove an absolute steal at 15,000gns!
