This Kodiac filly is a horse we’ve been aware of right throughout 2024, we’d seen her work video’s against our horses and the team at Spigot Lodge would often refer to the filly when we were at entry stage for several of our horses, deeming “they won’t beat Liberalised!”.
Despite being a May foal, she was out early enough in June winning at Hamilton on debut, beating a next time out winner, yet showing signs of evident greenness and inexperience. Whilst not being the strongest of races, her ability got her through and the yard didn’t think twice about running her in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot such was their opinion of her. She was fancied to run well enough before being withdrawn at the start after an issue with the starting stalls.
Her next two starts were at Newmarket, in group company on the July course.
She was beaten just three and a half lengths in the group two Duchess of Cambridge Stakes despite her poor track position towards the stand side. On her next start she stepped up to seven furlongs in the group three Sweet Solera Stakes where she was keen and it appeared she didn’t quiet get home. We are informed that she was still a little weak and that probably came too soon for the filly who I mentioned earlier was a very late foal.
Her final two starts can be excused on ground softer than ideal, her run at Haydock in a £40k novice was still promising given she was sat on the far rail in the straight, somewhere you didn’t want to be, indeed every winner that day came a couple of lanes off the rail.
Newbury we are happy to put a line through, it was absolutely bottomless and they finished in single file on close to unraceable round.
She comes recommended from the yard and is an exciting filly for 2025.
When we asked Sam James he said:
“I like her think she might want 7f gd ground and I think will be stronger filly next year”
She will be joining James Horton in 2025, James has recently moved into the historic Beech Hurst stables, the former base of his ex boss, Sir Michael Stoute.
We currently have two horses with James’, both purchased at the Tattersalls HIT sale and one has already won, In the shape of Dashing Harry. Our owners have been incredibly complimentary of James and his staff and our updates have been exceptional.
James’ really liked this filly when we sent over her profile and he will be taking a share in her. This is in addition to some agreements taken immediately after the hammer went down and we have just 40% to sell.
Our target is very simple and that’s to secure some blacktype before returning to the mares sale in 2025.
There are plenty of options for 3yo fillies and we are confident she has enough ability to pick up some black type given the physical development that is expected to follow.
She’s done very little for the last six weeks and she’ll enjoy the next six weeks in Ireland, before arriving at James’ mid January to be ready for the first week in March.
Her work at Karl’s was always very good on the artificial gallops which is the old surface from Southwell race course.
We believe she will be very well suited by the all weather and this could lead us to our first run of the season with races like the Listed Montenica at Chantilly and the Chelmer Stakes at Chelmsford strong options in March and April.
Should we represent this filly with a stakes place or even a win, she would be a very valuable filly given she is by Kodiac and she will be at the end of her three year old campaign.
Our initial outlay will be multiplied numerous times.
