James (Assistant trainer) is very happy with the progress Marshman is making, albeit he's been brought along fairly slowly given his issues which we hope are now in the past.
He's going to be doing some upsides work in the next couple of weeks and he should be ready to run from the middle of January onwards.
I've included all of his options up to mid March, running in three of these would qualify him for the £150,000 handicap at Newcastle on AW Finals Day.
17th January - Newcastle 6f 45k
2nd February - Lingfield 6f Listed Kachy Stakes
12th February - Kempton 6f 0-100

28th February - Lingfield 6f 45k
14th March - Southwell 6f 0-100
20th March - Newcastle 5f 0-105

Marshman started 2024 in excellent form, finishing 2nd to Montassib in the Listed Cammidge Stakes at Doncaster. Montassib would go on to Group One glory in the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock.
Nick and Karl bought this Harry Angel colt from Innishannon Valley Stud, Ireland. He is a big, good looking son of Harry Angel. A lttile bit long in the back but all Harry Angel's are. Just like we have seen previously with Acclamation and his progeny also being a little bit long in the back. It's more of a physical characteristic as much as anything.
This colt was another horse that Nick felt could fall through the cracks in terms of reaching a premium price. Harry Angel has already had a 2yo run to a very high level on debut in Redemption Time, trained by Clive Cox. He felt that had that colt win the prices of the Harry Angel progeny would be much higher than they were and by the time the later Breeze up sales are held the prices will be high.
This colt breezed very well, he recorded a time again in the top 20% of the times and like the Bated Breath colt was a scopy colt standing somewhere 15'3 and 16'0. When Nick reviewed the 2021 sales and each of the better colts to come out of the sale stood at least 15'3, however A'Ali who was a very quick breezer was smaller than 15'3.
He put in a very professional breeze. In the 1st furlong he ran it in 11.3, 2nd furlong he ran it in 10.5 and in terms of his rankings he was getting faster and faster. in the gallop out he was one of the fastest. Overall he was 27th fastest from 180 horses. From what Nick saw the further he went the better he went!
The vendors expected him to make at least £50,000 when he walked into the ring and spoke to Nick after the sale to tell me that they loved him at home. They felt he had shown the level of ability to win a Maiden/Novice in his first couple of starts and described him as being very straightforward. Again the vendors only paid £5,000 for him so they didn't have a huge price tag to recoup.
Karl is a big fan of him as well and hopeful of good things to come from this one! Karl is an excellent trainer of 2yos in Nick's eyes and they have teamed up with Dandalla, Little Kim, Honey Sweet, Guilded and Fast Response to name just a handful of Group class 2yo fillies they have teamed up with. He will be the 12th 2yo we have with Karl this season and for good reason!
It wouldn't be of surprise if we saw him running in the 2nd half of May and if he was too run well on debut he could be the type that would take us to Royal Ascot. We would imagine he would be running over 6f instead of 5f owing to the size of him.
