At the start of June, we did lots of work on the Tattersalls online breeze up sale and we had a shortlist of three horses, including this Coulsty colt. We decided to purchase a filly "Mossvale Diva" based on the fact that she was a filly and she was ready to run, being a little more forward than this boy.
Mossvale Diva made her racecourse debut today, finishing 2nd to a horse of Kevin Ryan's who went off 1/6 having ran to an RPR of 90 on his last start in a £30k novice event.
That gives us plenty of confidence in the sale and we've since revisited our shortlist and given Jack Davison a call who bought the colt at the sale.
He explains that he's working very well, to a mark of around 80 and he's been very impressed with his attitude, a common trend in all the stallions progeny, who we probably know better than anyone now!
This colt ran the second fastest time of the entire sale which is remarkable considering Jack see's him as a horse that will want at least seven furlongs.
Jack was keen to have us in the yard and we have agreed to purchase a share in the horse, alongside Jack, who has already enjoyed two year old success in Ireland this year and a bloodstock agent.
He is almost ready to run, with a barrier trial been booked in for next week and we'll be looking to run from the week after.
Irish maiden form is quiet possibly the strongest form around and Jack believes we are more than capable of winning an Irish maiden or at least going very close on our first attempt which is hoped will interest some American buyers especially with the stallion just as popular in the states as he has produced a grade one winner.
Back in September, we made a fairly bold statement that Rathasker Studs Coulsty was exceptional value and we believed that he would take another step forward in 2025. So far he has done exactly that with several maiden winners to his name and that number will only increase over the coming weeks as the majority of his progeny tend to want seven furlongs plus.
