We are delighted to announce that we have purchased the “fastest” horse in the Tattersalls Online breeze up sale, with this Coulsty filly recording the quickest time of the thirty four horses in the sale.
Back in September, we made a fairly bold statement that Rathasker Studs Coulsty was exceptional value and we believed that he would take another step forward in 2025.
From very little numbers and quality of mare, he’s already produced a grade one winner in America, in the shape of Shantisara as well as a group winner in Britain, Santosha winning the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot.
However it wasn’t these animals that saw us put some confidence behind the stallion, his stats for recording an RPR over 70 were extremely impressive, with over half of his produce achieving this feat which would usually be enough to win an English maiden.
We bought two yearlings last year for very limited money, with one of those being Homestrait, who has finished second on her first three starts and looks a certainty to win a maiden once she steps up in trip. We could have achieved this already but we are hunting a €50,000 Goffs bonus with the filly. Our other Coulsty filly is in training with Karl Burke and she is set to debut over the coming weeks, again she looks extremely well bought and she will be winning races.
Since last years yearling sales, Coulsty has only enhanced his reputation, Fiona Maccoul, who was the fastest horse in last years Tattersalls online sale has picked up over £60,000 for winning a sales race in Ireland whilst in recent weeks, Hammer The Hammer has recorded a hat trick taking his rating to three figures and just this week, €2,000 purchase, Amberia, won her maiden by over six lengths and she has been the subject of several huge offers from international owners.
The bulk of his progeny appear to want at least seven furlongs and Rathasker inform us that there are several nice horses to hit the track by the stallion in the coming weeks.
Had this filly been by a more fashionable stallion, she would have made several times what we paid for her which is a huge positive for ourselves based on our opinion of the sire.
We are told this filly has a fantastic temperament and a terrific attitude, comments that can be echoed about so many of the stallions progeny.
Both her consignor and work rider, Ben Coen report that she will be picking up an English maiden in the coming weeks and we’ll be aiming her at the valuable restricted race that are coming up with two early dates shown below:
28th June Doncaster 7f fillies 30k CD
13th July Southwell 6f fillies 25k D
A target for later in the season has to be the £100,000 EBF fillies final at Goodwood, a race we had the 1st and 4thin last year with this filly likely to receive weight allowances based on her price banding class of race she will be contesting.
When we were discussing where to send this filly, we felt that Brian Ellison was a great fit based on the job he has done with Homestrait. He was straight on the phone when we suggested she could be up for grabs and he has taken a large share in the filly based on his experience with the stallion so far.
This filly is out of a Night of Thunder mare, Night of Thunder himself stands for £150,000 and with due to his progeny been fairly young, there have been very little examples of his ability to produce a damsire but you would expect them to excel in the coming years.
The Kodiac x Dubawi cross is one of the most successful crosses, with eight of the nine examples producing a winner with the lowest RPR of the nine been 76!
