Another two year old winner in waiting!
Our team of two year old fillies has been strengthened again this morning after we agreed to purchase Blooming Legend, a filly by Coulsty, a stallion we hold in high regard, being one of the value stallions on the roster.
In truth, we should have bought this filly twice previously, she was on our list as a yearling having passed our physical assessment with flying colours, before Sam James sat on her in Newmarket back in March. Both Sam and James liked the filly, at the time Charlie hadn’t had a winner yet and we opted to go with a couple of other options.
Fast forward three months and Charlie has had four two year old winners including Flowerhead who finished second in the group two Queen Mary stakes at Royal Ascot!
Our filly will be making it five two year old wins for the yard in the coming weeks, she has contested some valuable novices to date, shaping with real promise on both occasions.
On debut, she ran in a £30k novice at Chelmsford, drawn in stall fourteen, you could forgive her a poor start but she finished 5thbehind impressive winner Venetian Lace, who would go on to finish 4thin the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot. The Chelmsford race is working out well, the 2nd and 4th have both been impressive winners since with horses that finished well down the field, posting an improved effort the next day.
She would then go to Lingfield, running on “firm” ground, highlighting her versatility and perfect mindset, a common trait of these Coulsty fillies.
This race was a Goffs €50k bonus and the Ollie Sangster horse who was sent off 1/3 is held in the highest regard, Racing Post gave our filly an RPR of 77 despite visually not handling the track and hanging in the latter stages of the race.
Charlie is confident there is more to come and we agree, hence we’ve finally got the deal over the line.
She is entered at Doncaster on Saturday in a £30k Juddmonte novice that we won with Glamis Road last year and she has the second highest RPR in that race, should we opt to go down that route.
We also have the option to target IRE Incentive races which she qualifies for and the €10,000 bonus will be a welcome return for her new owners.
Down the line, we’ll be looking at the £100k EBF fillies race, a race we won last year with Love Talk with Glamis Road finishing in fourth, could it be fate that they’ve both ran today in listed company finishing 3rd and 4th!
Her low purchase price combined with the fact that she’ll be running in class 6 novices will see her carry next to no weight in the valuable contest which is likely to come on some ground with a bit of give in it, perfect for this fillies action.
