Our Ardad filly is on the far side working with a more expensive breeze up purchase.
She shows plenty of early speed before tiring late in her work and with that in mind we aren't rushing her out and she'll make her debut in June.
Our Ardad filly can be seen in second, behind Body Parts leading.
Gemma plans to take a few 2yo's away for a gallop during the weak and that will give us a better gauge on ability and current level of fitness, from here we can target some races.
Gemma describes our filly as being alot less fit than she expected her to be.
However, she is very happy with how the filly is moving.
This is a positive long term and a negative short term. For her to breeze so well being so unfit suggests there is plenty of improvement to come with her.
As a result the Beverley race on May 6th may come too soon for her. There is a Band D fillies only race at Catterick on the 23rd May which looks a good spot for us given she is 100% GBB registered.
After making our second trip to Ireland, we are delighted to have added this Ardad filly to our roster.
We times every piece of work across the day and compared those to our previous visit along with a physical inspection which put a line through several of the shortlist.
Physically, the Ardad filly was the pick. She’s well put together, correct and well framed.
On the clock, she recorded the second fastest time, just falling short to a Sergei Prokofiev colt who had a big experience edge on the filly.
This was her first trip to Mockershill and the tough incline certainly didn’t hinder her ability to put her best foot forward.
Being a late April foal (27th), we can expect plenty of improvement to follow as she strengthens. This coupled with the fact that the consignor (Ardglas) are renowned for leaving plenty in their breeze up horses and there day at the sales is by no means their derby. A different approach to most but this gives the buyer plenty of confidence when on their horses.
Sam actually rode her twice, once in the warm up gallop and then over 4f for her piece of work shown to the right.
As he came back past us, he gave us the nod and said “she’ll be fast”, just what we wanted to hear!
The filly is 100% GBB registered and we have one simple plan, to win a qualifying maiden which will reclaim the vast majority of her purchase price.
She will join Gemma Tutty who has enjoyed an excellent winter after a couple of productive seasons albeit with some lesser stock.
Now she has been given the ammunition, she is going from strength to strength and her win with Look Back Smiling in the Spring Mile was another milestone ticked off with a large tv audience witnessing her training skills to have him ready to rock first time up despite all his quirks.
