On the first day of the Somerville yearling sale we had a real stand out filly that we were determined to purchase to join our string for the 2025 season. Upon her entering the sales ring, it was apparent that we wouldn't be stealing her and after discovering Highflyer Bloodstock and Eve Johnson Houghton had a big budget for the filly, we decided to team up to ensure we left the sale with her!
Eve has had an exceptional year with her 2yo's once again and at the time of writing, she has recorded 12 victories with her juveniles.
They include Listed Marygate winner, Betty Clover and Group Two July Stakes runner up, Billboard Star.
She has also enjoyed plenty of success when buying from the Somerville sale, Great Aclaim was purchased for a similiar figure in 2022 and he's gone within a neck of recording a prestigious Racing League hat trick and is thought to be a group horse for the future. As the name suggests, he is also by Aclaim and there is a lot of value to be had with the sire who is more than capable of producing a good horse but he isn't the most fashionable especially with the big commercial yards, which is perfect for us.
Horses like Cachet, Wiltshire and Purosangue are all by Aclaim and proof he's excellent value for his £8,000 stallion fee.
Anthony Bromley of Highflyer Bloodstock needs very little introduction especially when purchasing at this sale.
He is responsible for purchasing horses like Bradsell who was also consigned by Bearstone Stud, they also bred horses like Glass Slippers and last year we purchased J Street from them who has been a real success story for us for a relatively small purchase price.
Relief Rally was another filly purchased by Anthony at this sale in addition to Windsor Castle winner, Chipotle.
If he "NAPS" a horse you should really take notice!
Last year we purchased Woodcote winner, Teej A from this sale along with Fondest Dream who was sold to America after just one start for Ollie Sangster. The year before we bought Group Three winner Making Dreams from this sale and she went on to sell for €750,000 in the Arqana pop up sale.
On pedigree you'd expect her to be a seven furlong filly, the dam won over that distance as a 2yo but she's a very athletic sort who will think will be early and Eve tends to agree with that opinion.
She qualifies for both the Tattersalls sales races (100k/150k) and Eve has had tons of success in these races over the years.
We will also be looking to secure a £20,000 GB bonus as this filly is 100% qualified for that lucrative incentive.
That challenge will be made much easier by the fact that she qualifies for band C&D races.
