Video for her breeze up sales entry
After sitting down and assessing every two year old we saw in the past few days, this filly was a simple, must buy.
She was top of the list as a physical model and Sam James felt she gave him the best feel of every horse he sat on, describing her work as effortless, one of the best juveniles he’s sat on all year. These comments echo what he thought about Love Talk this time last year and when you consider the yards he is riding out at, it’s a fair statement.
Physical
A real standout at the Somerville yearling sale as you can see by the photos above. We gave her a star as a yearling, Nick saw her twice and underbid at 36,000gns, not wanting to break our model of staying within band “C” prices, especially so early into the sales season.
She’s a really scopey individual who has the speed to start over six furlongs but she’s going to improve right throughout the year and based on her appearance, you’d expect her to be a miler at three.
This filly wasn’t born until the 26th April so we can expect further physical development which adds to our excitement.
Pedigree
By first season stallion A’Ali, we’ve heard lots of very good reports from trainers regarding their progeny of the son of Society Rock. He was the Norfolk and Flying Childers winner at two and it’s clear he’s passed some of that precocity onto his offspring. Karl Burke believes he has three really smart animals by him, including one of ours and a lot of the breeze up consignors were raving about theirs when Nick was over in Ireland earlier this week.
The mare hasn’t had a great deal of luck so far, her first produce was only average whilst the second and third haven’t made it to the track, due to two unrelated injuries.
Our filly follows an Invincible Spirit colt who recorded the 5th fastest time at last year Craven breeze up, selling for 180,000gns as a result so it’s clear that animal had a great deal of ability before his injury that kept him off the track.
As you can see by looking down the pedigree sheet below, the page is littered with black type performers, with the dam a half sister to several herself, who have in turn gone on to produce smart animals themselves.
Makfi is a more than capable damsire, responsible for plenty of stakes winners and three figures ratings.
Majority of those have come from animals running over mile at three which is exactly what we see with our filly.
Trainer
We had a long list of trainers we could send this filly to but we’ve opted to add her to our already strong team in Manton, the home of Ollie Sangster.
Ollie had another excellent year in 2024, especially with his fillies. Just yesterday he took eight 3yo fillies to Kempton, who will all be aimed at stakes races in 2025 including our very own Glamis Road.
In the shape of Glamis Road, Simmering, Celestial Orbit, Flight, Ellaria Sand, he holds strong hands in all of the European Guineas and that’s exactly where we believe this filly could be as a three year old.
After seeing the filly yesterday, Ollie has opted to take a share in her himself.
Racing plans
Another big positive for us is the fact that this filly is 100% Great British Bonus registered and we’ll look to start her off in a fillies only race, aiming to pick up a £20,000 bonus in our very first race.
She qualifies for band “B” races which makes things a little easier but we won’t be diluting our options to restricted races based on what we saw earlier in the week.
Whilst she could be out in May and upto the task of Royal Ascot, we’ll let Ollie build up an opinion over the coming weeks, at this stage we’d think she’ll be coming into her own in the second half of 2025 but we fully expect she’ll be lining up in stakes company at the back end of the year.
We could follow a very similar route to Glamis Road, whereby we look to land a valuable novice, run in the £100k EBF Fillies final before stepping into Listed and Group company afterwards.
This route gives her owners a big chance of repaying their input within her first year.
