We were pleased to strike early with the Burke family on day one of the Tattersall’s book two sale with a promising looking 100% GBB qualified filly by first season sire A’Ali. As suspected, the open day of the sale has been very strong and we feel that our filly represents good value at band “C” money.
A’Ali, a son of Society Rock was an absolute rocket who won three group two’s in his juvenile season including the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Prix Robert Papin at Deauville before coming home in front in the Flying Childers at Doncaster.
He trained on as a three year old, during another success season where he won the group three Coral Charge at Sandown as well as the group two, Sapphire Stakes, again both over the minimum trip.
This filly looks all speed and she could be one of our first 2yo's o run in 2025 and we'll be hoping to replicate the sire and get to Royal Ascot!
At the time of writing, 30 lots have passed through the yearling sales so far this season with an average price of 30,000gns with the highest price paid being over 150,000gns!
Given this is the first filly by the sire that has made our shortlist after second viewing’s across all the yearling sales, we feel like we’ve ticked a big value for money box once again paying slightly over the median price.
There’s a deep enough pedigree with the second dam being a winner of an Irish listed race over 9.5f and she has gone on to produce several high quality equine athletes including G3 Darley Stakes winner, Feliciana De Vega and the mightily impressive Matsuri who was beaten just a length in the Irish Derby, recording an RPR of 117… you’d imagine there’s a fairly substantial pedigree update to follow in 2025 when he returns to the track.
Whilst our mare didn’t quiet hit the heights of her siblings, we think she has everything to make a successful broodmare. Oasis Dream is a prolific dam sire, Audience, Nations Pride, Iresine, Big Evs and Alflaila are just a few examples of a long, long list of success stories.
As she walked into the ring we felt that if she was making band "C" money we just had to buy her due to the increasing opportunities for restricted animals in Britain. As I have eluded to previously, there where 112 maidens for 2yo's that cost under £40,000 in the first four months of the flat season, with 10% of those races offering prize money of £30,000.
This gives us an almighty chance of success early in the season before we hopefully move on to bigger and better things, like this fillies pedigree will suggest she will.
She joins the best 2yo trainer in the country at this moment in time, that opinion is not only backed up by his eye watering stats year on year but the recognition of some of the biggest owners in the land now trusting the yard with their most expensive purchases including AMO racing who are sending their £4.4million Wootton Bassett colt!
As mentioned above, she 100% qualifies for the lucrative GBB which will see owners rewarded with a £20,000 bonus per fillies race won!
