"Will definitely win a maiden"
We are happy to have secured this Cotai Glory filly for just 30,000gns at the Doncaster Breeze Up sale, indeed she was a filly we had been recommend before the breeze yesterday. Her consignor, George Peckham was very keen on his two fillies, one a Kodi Bear filly who fetched 180,000gns in the ring today despite finishing just 0.29 seconds faster over the 2.3f furlongs.
George was left scratching his head when this filly didnt make her reserve and we were more than happy to pick up the pieces, with George maintaining a large share in the filly such is his confidence in the horse, along with Ollie Sangster.
Her dam, Blockade was a 2yo winner herself before going onto finishing second in the Group Two Rockfel Stakes.
She qualifies for the €10k IRE Incentive which will see us be rewarded with a good chunk of her purchase price almost immediately.
We've already had a winning 2yo this season in training with Ollie Sangster and his already impressive reputation continues to grow.
Manton House is an excellent base for any horse and likewise for any syndicate member who wishes to get involved in their prestigious history.
She was very professional early in her breeze and had clearly been well prepped for her 2.3f piece of work.
Her first furlong was the 9th quickest of the entire sale, everything infront of her reached over 100,000gns in the ring!
She then backed that up with a 11.3 furlong which saw her clock the 24th fastest time after 2f. Towards the end of her second furlong, she became unbalanced and she changed her lead leg at least half a dozen times.
We believe this is purely down to the fact that she hated the ground, as our sire stats point to in the next section, Cotai Glory produces animals that on the whole, prefer some proper summer ground.
She came down 156th which was in the final hours of the day. Those horses that breezed in the first 100 lots produced 28 of the top 50 times, with the average time slowly slightly as the day went on.
NOW FOR THE INTERESTING BIT!!
Our filly can be seen in the middle of the front trio in her last piece of work before the sale. here she is working with George's 180k Kodi Bear filly (far side) along with the impressive class two winner from Epsom on the 23rd April, Crystal Delight who won off a mark of 88 (near side)
The two breeze up fillies pulled well clear of the pack despite jumping off with them and its clear to see this filly has a huge amount of ability.
Right throughout the two fillies preparation, George is adamant he couldn't split the two horses on her homework and he believes the testing ground on the Town Moor really hampered her effort, not bad considering the time she clocked!
Looking at progeny of Cotai Glory, they have just a 17% strike on heavy ground and that increases to 13% on soft ground. If you compare that to a 21% SR on good ground and a 32% SR on firm ground, we should see a much better horse when we get some nice summer ground in the coming weeks!
