3YO Bay Filly
Trainer: Richard Fahey
Sire: MEHMAS
Dam: AVIZARE
Dam's Sire: LAWMAN
Purchase Date: 10/09/19
FULLY SYNDICATED
This filly was purchased by Nick Bradley and Mouse O'Ryan (Richard Fahey's Bloodstock agent) at the Ascot Yearling Sales on 10th September 2019.
She was purchased from Rathasker Stud, Ireland who stand BUNGLE INTHEJUNGLE, COULSTY and CLODOVIL amongst other stallions.
The Ascot Yearling sale of 2018 has produced 4 stakes winning 2yos in 2019 and the Newbury Supersprint winner, BETTYS HOPE. It was very much the Supersprint that was in Nick's mind going to this sale and this recruit was top of the shortlist in terms of what Nick wanted to buy for the race in 2020.
Our filly is the second foal out of the 76 rated Lawman mare, AVIZARE. The first foal, FANTASY BELIEVER has ran 3 times to date and has an official rating of 76 for Charlie Hills over 6 and 7 furlongs.
MEHMAS was a leading 2yo in 2016 over 5 and 6 furlongs. He finished 2nd to CARAVAGGIO in the Coventry Stakes and went on to win the Group 2 July Stakes and Richmond Stakes beating BLUE POINT in the process. He finished his 2yo career with an official rating of 115 and was retired to stand at Tally Ho Stud. He is bred on the same cross as sire of sires, DARK ANGEL being by ACCLAMATION out of a MACHIAVELLIAN mare and is very much tipped to be a success at stud.
Our filly is a small attractive filly who first and foremost looks fast. She was very much the filly Nick wanted to bring home from the sale and looks a precocious type who is tailormade for the Newbury race. She should be out on the track in April or May over the minimum distance of 5 furlongs. She is a straightforward filly who moves well, with a good step and was highly recommended by Maurice Burns of Rathasker Stud.
She was bought early in the sale as Lot 16 and as the sale went on the market definitely got stronger. Nick was prepared to go a lot higher than 14,000 Guineas and was fortunate to buy her as the underbidder thought he was bidding on behalf of the vendor and Gill Richardson had a lot more than 14,000 Guineas for her but her trainer hadn't yet arrived at the sale.
Nick's record with fillies is second to none, and of his four 2yo yearling fillies bought in 2018, GREAT DAME won the Lily Agnes (£28,000 in prize money), FRANKEL'S STORM has won and finished 2nd in a Listed race (£53,000 in prize money), MISS LUCY won a Novice at Newmarket and was sold to America for a large six figure sum and DRAMATISTA was deemed good enough by Archie Watson to have an entry in the Group 1 Moyglare before picking up an injury.
She comes highly recommended and is the ideal type for someone who wants a sharp 2yo who should give them plenty of racing in 2020.
