This filly was purchased by Nick from the Goffs Sportsman Sale on 30th September 2021.
The Goffs Orby Sale was very strong this year, but in Nick's opinion the standard of horses on the third day was every inch as good as the first two days but the prices were a lot more realistic.
Nick purchased six horses from the sale in total and in his opinion this filly was definitely the best value purchase of them all and therefore the best value purchase in the sale. There were a couple of reasons why this was the case. Firstly, the vendor was an old lady who loved her horse but wouldn't have the experience to value her horses or protect them in the ring. The second is that a lot of the market is set by the breeze up purchasers and in this filly's case she is by National Defence who is probably not seen as a commercial stallion going forward due to small crop numbers.
National Defence has had just 8 runners in the UK to date which include the Queen Mary second placed horse Twilight Gleaming so he is more than capable of siring a quick horse.
This filly looks every inch a 5 furlong horse as she is strong, quite close coupled which means that she isn't carrying too much weight and will have a sprinter's stride.
She seemed to have a very good attitude and when Nick went back to check on her, her owner and her were having a cuddle and saying their goodbyes.
Nick was prepared to bid up to 20,000 Euros without hesitation and would have probably gone higher had he needed to. We expect this filly to be out in May over 5 furlongs.
The team who complete all the wind tests picked her out as being a very good mover on the lunge which bodes well.
She joins Roger Fell who Nick has teamed up with in 2021 to win with Eldrickjones and Lucy Lulu who both won at 2 and Eldrickjones finished 2nd in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. Roger has achieved a total of six 2yo winners in 2021 and that is from a team of ten cheaply bought 2yos. This ratio would be as good as any trainer in the UK.
