Kevin's thoughts

Nick & Kevin have collobarated for the 1st time at The Arqana breeze up sale this week, they identified around 5/6 horses at the sale. The first horse that came on to their radar was this Farhh filly (lot 11). She was purchased after the sales privately for €35,000. As the sale progressed she became increasingly good value and ultimately in Nick's eyes the best valued horse to be sold. If she turns out to be any good, with her impressive pedigree with Jack Hobbs in her 2nd dam if she went on to black type success she would be worth a considerable amount.

A Farhh filly out of a Sepoy mare, with the mare being a full sister to Jack Hobbs who was a very good staying horse and Farhh himself being a great staying horse. Nick thinks she will initially be running over 7f and then stepping up to whatever trip he see's fit.

She is a good sized filly, Kevin says she looked more like Farhh than that of SepLooking at the timings, she ran the 1st furlong in 11.74s. There was around 130 horses at the sale, her 1st furlong was 106th fastest, so in comparison to the rest of the horses this was not a quick breeze. Her 2nd furlong she ran it in 11.08s and here she was 48th fastest and certainly an above average breeze. Her gallop out which is timed over the space of about 40 yards she ran in 2s, this was overall 10th fastest. What this shows is that she started off slowly and was getting faster and faster.

The main point is that she was getting quicker and quicker, overall she was about 90th fastest. She didn't provide a particularly fast breeze but the key point for Kevin & Nick here was that it looked like she was just beginning to get going!  This sectional timing is indicative of a stayer rather than a sprinter. With her very established staying pedigree everything matches up with what Nick and Kevin saw in the breeze. She is sound, good moving, Kevin vetted her at the sales and she vetted well, he also scoped her and she received a high 2(2A).

We are excited to be working for Kevin for the first time and look forward to seeing the results. Kevin has already had a 2yo winner from his base in Newmarket this season and we are bullish there will be many more to come. The initial plan being for Kevin is to find out more about her over the coming 6 weeks, work her a couple of times and generally build up her fitness. For hopefully a debut in the first half of July!
