"Samara Bay is well and ready to run when racing is given the green light to commence."
This filly was purchased by Nick Bradley and Mouse O'Ryan (Richard Fahey's Bloodstock agent) at the Ascot Yearling Sales on 10th September 2019.
The Ascot Yearling sale of 2018 has produced 4 stakes winning 2yos in 2019 and the Newbury Supersprint winner, BETTYS HOPE. It was very much the Supersprint that was in Nick's mind going to this sale and this recruit was top of the shortlist in terms of what Nick wanted to buy for the race in 2020.
Our filly is the second foal out of the 76 rated Lawman mare, AVIZARE. The first foal, FANTASY BELIEVER has ran 3 times to date and has an official rating of 76 for Charlie Hills over 6 and 7 furlongs.
MEHMAS was a leading 2yo in 2016 over 5 and 6 furlongs. He finished 2nd to CARAVAGGIO in the Coventry Stakes and went on to win the Group 2 July Stakes and Richmond Stakes beating BLUE POINT in the process. He finished his 2yo career with an official rating of 115 and was retired to stand at Tally Ho Stud. He is bred on the same cross as sire of sires, DARK ANGEL being by ACCLAMATION out of a MACHIAVELLIAN mare and is very much tipped to be a success at stud.
Our filly is a small attractive filly who first and foremost looks fast. She was very much the filly Nick wanted to bring home from the sale and looks a precocious type who is tailormade for the Newbury race. She should be out on the track in April or May over the minimum distance of 5 furlongs. She is a straightforward filly who moves well, with a good step and was highly recommended by Maurice Burns of Rathasker Stud.
She was bought early in the sale as Lot 16 and as the sale went on the market definitely got stronger. Nick was prepared to go a lot higher than 14,000 Guineas and was fortunate to buy her as the underbidder thought he was bidding on behalf of the vendor and Gill Richardson had a lot more than 14,000 Guineas for her but her trainer hadn't yet arrived at the sale.
Nick's record with fillies is second to none, and of his four 2yo yearling fillies bought in 2018, GREAT DAME won the Lily Agnes (£28,000 in prize money), FRANKEL'S STORM has won and finished 2nd in a Listed race (£53,000 in prize money), MISS LUCY won a Novice at Newmarket and was sold to America for a large six figure sum and DRAMATISTA was deemed good enough by Archie Watson to have an entry in the Group 1 Moyglare before picking up an injury.
She comes highly recommended and is the ideal type for someone who wants a sharp 2yo who should give them plenty of racing in 2020.
"Seasett is being ridden up the Musley Bank hill every morning. Robin describes him as a grand, straightforward horse who is doing everything right and easily at the moment. He has had no problems to date and we couldn't be happier with him." - Nick Bradley
"As the sale progressed it became obvious that he was a great value purchase and we were very fortunate to acquire him at the price we did. Tally Ho informed me that they could have sold him three times for more money than we paid for him. I was talking to Richard Fahey about him yesterday and he had the same opinion as myself that he would be worth a lot of money should he be up to winning a Maiden or Novice early in his career." Nick Bradley
"I’m delighted Nick has got the Wootton Bassett colt, a big scopey horse with a great walk. The sire was very lucky for me, he’s a rag to riches sire, he started covering mares at £3,000 and now he’s £40,000 stud fee. He’s a horse that’s been very successful and I hope in the future that this fellow will carry it on." Richard Fahey
This colt was bought by Nick Bradley and Richard Fahey at the Tattersalls Book 1 Sale in October 2019.
He is a son of the prolifically successful stallion WOOTTON BASSETT who has sired the likes of ALMANZOR, WOOTTON, BEAT LE BON and GUILDSMAN who have all shown themselves to be top quality colts with ALAMNZOR being Champion in 2016 and triple Group 1 winner.
This colt was bought from Book 1, where the best physicals bred in England and Ireland are sold. On inspecting over 200 horses at the sale, Nick would be confident in saying that this colt is in the top 10% of the catalogue, making him physically the best colt we have ever been able to buy.
Roger O Callaghan from Tally Ho described this colt as 'truly gorgeous, very straightforward and one of the best colts he has prepped for a sale'. Roger expected this colt to make around £150,000 in the ring but failed to sell, possibly as he was an early lot into the ring on Day 1. Nick moved quickly to purchase the colt and later that day Roger had four other parties approach him to buy the colt for alot more money than it was sold to Nick Bradley Racing for.
This colt is the first foal out of the mare SEA HORN (FASTNET ROCK) who herself was the first foal out of SEA SHELLS, who is the full sister to Group 1 winner IMPERIAL MONARCH, and half-sister to four other Group 1 performers in Cup horse MOUNT ATHOS, Derby runner up THE GREY GATSBY, Oaks 3rd placed ROMAN EMPRESS and Racing Post Trophy 3rd MAGRITTE.
He goes into training with Richard Fahey who also loved the colt. Richard felt that he was an outstanding colt and not one he expected us to be able to buy. Richard liked him that much he took a share in him, himself. We see him as a horse who will start over 7 furlongs in July and then progress to trips at a mile or above in the second half of the 2020 season and progress as a 3yo.
This colt carries the £25,000 Bonus which means were he to win any Class 4 or better Maiden or Novice he would pick up the Bonus for his owners. Something that we achieved twice in 2018 and in 2019 with FRANKEL'S STORM.
I couldn't recommend this colt highly enough and he is a very exciting horse to have in the ranks for the 2020 season.
